The School of Human Movement and Quality of Life Sciences was established by Presidential Decree No. 118 of 24 April 2003 "Establishment of Schools and Departments at the University of Peloponnese" (Annex B). The same decree also established the Department of Sports Organisation and Management, which started its educational operation from the academic year 2003-2004.
The Department of Sports Organisation and Management of the University of Peloponnese was established by Presidential Decree 118/2003 (Government Gazette 102A) and belongs to the School of Human Movement and Quality of Life Sciences, based in Sparta. According to the Presidential Decree, the mission of the Department of Sports Organisation and Management is 1) to promote knowledge in the fields of sports science and the organisation and management of sports institutions, 2) to provide students with the necessary skills to ensure their excellent training for a scientific and professional career, 3) to organize postgraduate studies leading to the training of scientists with specialized knowledge in individual subjects of the Department, and 4) to contribute to the production of scientists capable of undertaking the organization and management of sporting events at international and national level.
It is the only university department in the Greek territory which treats and develops a new scientific discipline for Greek standards, that of the organization and management of sport.
